Northumberland Ferries Ltd., operating ferry service between Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island and Caribou, Nova Scotia started in 1941. Operating under contract to Transport Canada for over 60 years, Northumberland Ferries is a privately held company headquartered in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Currently 2 vessels are used to provide daily service 8 months of the year with upwards of 9 crossings per port per day in the peak summer season.
It’s sister company, Bay Ferries Ltd., operates The CAT high speed ferry between Bar Harbor, Maine and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia as well as the Princess of Acadia between Saint John, New Brunswick and Digby, Nova Scotia. In addition Bay Ferries, Great Lakes operates the Spirit of Ontario between Toronto, Ontario and Rochester, New York.
